Puchero – Costa Rica – Grandparents

Description

The name of this café pays homage to the grandparents of the family Farm , Albaro Abarca Herrera and Leonel Jiménez Abarca, who transmitted to the new generations the value of constant and honest work. Inspired by their teachings, the family started their own project.

Located in the renowned coffee growing region of Tarrazú, the community sustains itself economically and socially thanks to the cultivation of coffee. This family project began more than 21 years ago, and in the last five years it has focused on improving the quality of the product and making its coffee stand out in the cup. With this objective, in 2019 Abuelos Café was born.

Despite the economic difficulties, the family decided to continue dedicated to coffee, but in a more direct way: connecting with end clients, guaranteeing traceability and offering superior quality. In the beginning, the coffee was sold in cherry to local coffee mills; however, over time the family decided to opt for a more independent model. Thus began the work as a micro-beneficiary, processing a small batch of the first harvest.

The road was not easy. Finding customers required patience, Training and perseverance. Thanks to continuous Training , in the second year we were able to sell two microlots, and in the third year we were able to process about 30% of the total harvest.

Abuelos Café is a family business formed by Kamila, Emmanuel, Gustavo, Adolfo and Seilyn. Those directly responsible for the benefit are 100% women: Seilyn, the mother, and Kamila, the daughter, who lead each stage of the process with commitment and dedication.

The purpose of the family is to continue growing, both professionally and personally, and to offer the consumer a coffee with history, effort and purpose. Each cup generates a butterfly effect that positively impacts the lives of those who produce it, their families and their community.
